A Much Needed Drink – Or Several

This was one long, boring, and overworked week that lead me on the path to greener pastures, i.e. a pre-conference event drinking session with fellow code-monkeys and technologists.

Back from work, into the shower for a nice hot refresher, and off to Drinks Cafe Bar in Sri Petaling I went. Yes, you read it right, it’s Drinks Cafe Bar – the owner definitely has a penchant for stating the obvious :)

Once there, the first notion that popped into my mind was as follows: “Where are the girls?”. This is a question I am doomed to forever ask myself every time I attend a gathering of the geeks, despite having already known the answer :)

I registered at the counter to begin receiving my half-hourly dividends of booze, before stepping into the sausage-fest. There I met some old friends of mine – from school, college and work alike.

Shortly after I arrived and exchanged pleasantries with my peers, the organizers invited us all to join them in what appeared to be the main staging area of the bar. They requested our participation in a game, one that required each individual to pair up with another individual – a complete stranger – for two minutes in an effort to get us to mingle and network.

I found this game of theirs rather effective; I had the opportunity to meet some rather interesting individuals, such as Joshua TLY and Clayton Narcis of wootfood fame!

The night ended with a roundtable discussion (if my memory serves me, as cloudy as it feels now) involving Praburaajan, Colin Charles, Aizatto, Chee Ming and several others – felt just like old times :)

I had one hell of a time, and had much to look forward to the following day – or given the timing, in a matter of hours! I’ll be stopping here, seeing as I have exhausted the extent to which I can type – under both the influence of alcohol as well as the overwhelming desire to drift off to sleep. I bid you good night!
